Why Study History?
When people study History they often say it is to better prepare for the future. Although this is true, History offers its students much more because it helps us learn how society has unfolded and how we choose to treat one another. History can be an enjoyable experience full of fun facts and fascinating historical figures. It helps explain why a single person, groups of people, a single event, or a chain of events, was able to change the course of history for better or worse. History also helps explain how the world fell into some the darkest chapters in human history. As heartbreaking as these events can be, studying History can help ensure that they never happen again.
History helps the individual become a better citizen and a better member of his/her community because it helps identify who one is and where their interests lie. As a student of History, one may learn a multitude of abilities such as learning the differences between political parties, analyzing and assessing historical documents, and acquiring useful information for the common citizen. Students of History learn to become professionals as well as acquiring a great deal of knowledge in the world of various disciplines. There are numerous jobs that cater to students of History and many more become available with each passing day. Choose an era, time period, or historical figure that fascinates you and let History take you for the ride of your life. “Let the world change you and you can change the world.” -Ernesto Guevara |
